Zaluzhny does not rule out ceding territories to achieve peace with Russia

Ukraine’s ambassador to Britain, Valery Zaluzhny, considers it acceptable to give up territory to achieve peace with Russia. This is reported by TASS citing The Daily Telegraph.

In his words, the territorial issue is not paramount for Ukraine when resolving the conflict with the Russian Federation, and security guarantees are more important.

“I didn’t mention the territories. I talked about safety, security and the feeling of being in your own home. If I lived in my own house and knew that my neighbor had taken over part of my garden, I would say that we should solve this problem. If not now, our children will have to figure it out.” – said Zaluzhny.

According to the publication, Zaluzhny’s statements indicate a change in the rhetoric of the Ukrainian authorities, who previously insisted on the impossibility of achieving peace without the return of all lost territories. The Ukrainian military with whom the newspaper’s correspondents spoke said they were in favor of an early end to the conflict because of the heavy losses and the impossibility of achieving victory. At the same time, the publication writes that Western officials are interested in prolonging hostilities in the hope of weakening Russia’s position in 2025-2026.
