Moldova’s Foreign Ministry accused Russia of “artificial activity” of its voters

Moldova’s Foreign Ministry responded to reports of large numbers of voters at two polling stations in Moscow. Chisinau said it “foreseen the possibility of crowding as a result of attempts to organize the illegal transfer of voters to polling stations.” This is reported by an EADaily correspondent.

The department is confident that the diaspora in Russia should not have actively participated in the presidential elections of the Republic of Moldova or in the referendum on its attitude towards European integration. Therefore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova approved only two sections. For almost half a million compatriots living in the Russian Federation, only 5 thousand ballots were allocated for each section.

“In the process of preparing for the elections, we warned the Russian authorities about attempts by some entities to transport citizens in an organized manner to the polling stations of our embassy in Moscow. Therefore, we believe that the resulting crowd at two polling stations in Russia was artificially created to interfere with the holding of the elections. In this regard, we once again draw the attention of the Russian authorities and other organizations to the inadmissibility of illegal transportation of voters to polling stations.” – stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova.

They added that polling stations in Moscow opened at 07:00 local time and are operating normally.

“We believe that the crowds at two polling stations in Russia were artificially created to endanger the electoral process.” – continues the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova.

Previously, the Central Election Commission of Moldova gave an explanation about the situation of the voting process in the Russian Federation. They recalled that the main reason why only two polling stations were organized in the Russian Federation “was a serious risk to the safety of both voters and election commission employees.” All voters go through a metal detector.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, the most active polling stations abroad are those of France, the Russian Federation, Romania, Greece, Italy and Turkey. In the current situation, there are more and more registered citizens waiting for the opportunity to exercise their right to vote (the queue exceeds 100 people).

According to the latest information from the Central Electoral Commission, as of 1:00 p.m., around 716,000 citizens had voted in the presidential elections in Moldova, representing 25.46% of the total number of voters. 144,233 people participated in the constitutional referendum, which represents 16.14%.
