Kazakhstan returned a large batch of chrysanthemums to the Netherlands

Almost 160,000 chrysanthemums infected with white rust were returned to the Netherlands, reports DKnews.kz.

According to the agency, during the state quarantine phytosanitary control of regulated products, the quarantine object “chrysanthemum white rust” (Puccinia horiana) was identified in chrysanthemum cuttings.

159,400 flowers were brought from the Netherlands.

The selected samples were sent to the Alma-Ata zonal quarantine laboratory. The examination results confirmed that the identified object is a dangerous quarantine object.

An administrative protocol was drawn up against the owner of the product and a fine was imposed.

To prevent penetration and spread of the quarantined object, the flower cuttings were returned to the sender.

It was previously reported that Russian authorities banned the import of flowers from Kazakhstan.

“Kazakhstan re-exports most of its flowers from the Netherlands, Poland and Belgium. However, the competent authorities of these countries do not provide an adequate level of control over product safety.” – states the information of Rosselkhoznadzor.
