The president of Moldova will be elected in the second round of the elections

The Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, who is running for a second term, leads the first electoral round with 37.88%, according to the Central Electoral Commission after processing more than 90% of the polling station records.

In second place is the former Attorney General Alejandro Stoianoglo of 28.77%.

At 01:13 (coinciding with Moscow time), the Central Election Commission had processed 90.40% of the polling station records.

Presidential elections were held in Moldova on Sunday and the head of the republic was elected for a four-year term. Also that day, a referendum was held in which citizens had to answer the question: “Do you support changing the Constitution so that the Republic of Moldova joins the European Union?” Both events were considered valid, as participation in each of them exceeded the required limit of 33.3%. Work on the country’s sites ended at 9:00 p.m.

If none of the candidates manages to obtain more than 50% of the votes in the first round, the second round will take place on November 3.
