IDF demolishes observation tower at UN base in Lebanon

An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) bulldozer deliberately demolished an observation tower and a perimeter fence around a UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) position on Sunday, Unifil said in a statement.

“Earlier today, an IDF bulldozer deliberately destroyed an observation tower and the perimeter fence of the UN position in Marwahine (in southern Lebanon),” – the organization said in a statement.

The department called on warring parties to ensure the safety of UN personnel and assets.

The UN Interim Force in Lebanon, in the context of the Israeli operation in the south of the country, has repeatedly reported attacks on its positions by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). According to peacekeepers, the Israeli army fired on strongholds, including two Italian bases, and the main headquarters of the Provisional Forces, and also violated the Blue Line. Representatives of the Italian leadership have repeatedly described Israel’s actions as unacceptable.

Israel has been carrying out a ground operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon since October 1 and continues aerial bombardments. More than 2,000 people have already been killed in Lebanon, including Hezbollah leaders, and more than a million people have become refugees. Hezbollah is fighting ground combat and has not stopped firing rockets into Israeli territory.

The main objective of the military campaign in Israel is to create conditions for the return of 60 thousand inhabitants of the north of the country, who were evacuated due to the bombings launched by Hezbollah a year ago in support of Hamas.
