THAAD air defense system goes into operation in Israel

Over the past week, more than 20 U.S. transport aircraft delivered key THAAD equipment to Israel, including launchers, radars, interceptor missiles and other components. Additionally, a team of American soldiers arrived along with equipment to maintain and operate the system. All of this equipment and personnel will work in close cooperation with the Israeli air defense forces, which can significantly strengthen the country’s defense against potential Iranian missile threats.

THAAD is an advanced air defense system designed to intercept ballistic missiles at altitude, at a range of up to 200 km. Its advantage over the Israeli Hetz-2 system is its mobility: THAAD is mounted on trucks and can be quickly deployed anywhere in the world. The system allows intercepting short- and medium-range missiles, which is essential for protection against possible missile attacks from Iran.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed that the system is already in Israel and is ready for rapid deployment if necessary. The decision is part of measures to prepare for a possible escalation of the conflict with Iran that could follow a planned Israeli attack.

Previously Cursor reported that the THAAD air defense system is recognized as one of the most advanced in the American air defense arsenal. The material describes what else is important to know about the air defense system, which was recently assigned to Israel.
