Puente says Saturday incident ‘is not normal at all’ and ‘there is already an independent investigation’

The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, described the train derailment in Madrid last Saturday as “this is not a normal event”, therefore “there is an independent investigation”. The incident caused cuts at Madrid Cercanías and high speeds.

Of course, the minister dissociated these cuts from the alleged “lack of investment” in the rail network. This is how he explained it in an interview with La 2 and Radio 4after normal traffic was restored this Monday afterwards, 13,700 people were affected by train cancellations and changes.

The minister has already stressed this Sunday that the causes of the accident will be the subject of an investigation because, according to him, it was not normal: “It is something really serious that a train that we trailer to workshops breaks like “It appears that he broke away from the train that was towing him and ended up against the wall of a tunnel.”

In this sense, the president of Renfe, Raül Blanco, indicated that “it will be necessary to analyze the maneuvers that were carried out and which led to this incident.”

In an interview with Zero wave, He also announced that the evacuation of the convoy, which was not carrying passengers, would not be easy and that technicians from Renfe and Adif were working on solutions, an operation he described as “very complex” because of what it involves working in a closed space.
