Spain records new tourist record until July, reaching 53.4 million with spending of 7.1 billion

The number of international tourists arriving in Spain reached its highest figure in the first seven months of 2024, reaching 53.4 millionwhich means a 12% increase compared to the previous year, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), which indicates that the spending of these tourists increased by almost 20% until July, reaching 71.1 billion euros.

Summer brought, as expected, a new record number of tourists to Spain. Our country welcomed a total of 10.9 million tourists last July. international, 7.3% more than in the same month of 2023.

The United Kingdom is the country that sends the most visitors to Spain, exceeding the figure of 2 million, or 2.6% more than in July of the previous year. 1.6 million arrived from France (3.4% more) and 1.2 million from Germany (6.6% more).

Tourists who visited Spain last July mainly chose the Balearic Islands to rest, with 23.4% of the total. This was followed by Catalonia (22.1%) and the Valencian Community (13.6%).

This record level of tourist attendance is accompanied by a very high level of spending. The total spending recorded by the INE of international tourists who visited Spain during the first month of summer reached 15.535 million euros, which represents an increase of 11.9% compared to the same month of 2023.

More tourists and more spending

The average expenditure per tourist was 1,432 euros, with an annual increase of 4.3%.. For its part, the average daily expenditure increased by 2.1%, to 195 euros.

The main spending countries in July were the United Kingdom (with 18.3% of the total), Germany (10.8%) and France (9.6%).

Balearic Islands and Catalonia, in the lead

The autonomous communities with the greatest weight in tourist spending in July were Balearic Islands (with 24.4% of the total), Catalonia (20.1%) and the Valencian Community (13.3%). Tourist spending increased by 16.2% year-on-year in the Balearic Islands, by 2.1% in Catalonia and by 20.1% in the Valencian Community, according to the INE.
