The Pope, who was the first president of the Catholic Church that originated from Latin America for centuries, became the Pope in 2013.
His death was confirmed at his residence in the Vatican Monday morning (4/21/2025).
The Pope was transferred to the hospital in February due to dual pneumonia.
He appeared on Easter from the balcony of Basilica Basu Petros when one of the assistants read a blessing, where the Pope condemned the “sad humanitarian situation” caused by the Israeli attacks in Gaza.
The Pope said: “I declared my closeness to suffering … all the people of Israel and the Palestinian people.”
The Pope affirmed, “I appeal to the warring parties: calling for a ceasefire, liberating the hostages and coming to help people who are starving in a peaceful future.”
A daily phone call to Gaza
The leader of the world has routinely condemned the Israeli war in Gaza before he was transferred to the hospital.
It was stated in November that the Israeli attack can be classified as a group extermination.
The Pope wrote in his new book, hop is never disappointed: “According to some experts, what happens in Gaza has the characteristics of genocide.”
