The cold storm arrives in Spain in the next few hours with heavy rains and up to 12ºC less

The meteorological fall published this month will end during the first week of September temperatures below seasonal norms and rains that will be abundant in the north. This Monday, thirteen autonomous communities activated alerts for precipitation and storms with the possibility of hail. The communities of Aragon, Castile and Leon, Navarre and La Rioja due to rain and storms that will accumulate up to 30 liters per square meter in one hour, in addition to hail and strong wind depending on the area.

They are also on yellow alert Andalusia, Cantabria, Castile-La Mancha, Catalonia, Madrid, Murcia, Basque Country and Valencian Communityfurther Balearic Islands only for rains. This first meteorological week of autumn (September-October-November) temperatures will tend to be below seasonal norms in much of the country, except in the eastern peninsula and the Balearic Islands where they could be a little higher than usual, reported this Monday by the spokesman for the National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) Luis Bañón.

As for rainfall, it will be more abundant than normal in the northwest of the peninsula and on the Cantabrian coast, although it is expected to be normal or below normal for the season in the rest of the country. The arrival of the storm from the Atlantic, whose cold front crosses the northern third of the peninsula, will “significantly” lower temperatures. “Anomalies could be between -10ºC and -12ºC in the northern points of the peninsula“warns ElTiempo.esMaximum temperatures will only exceed 34º in the Guadalquivir Valley.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, the Atlantic storm will further extend its influence over the peninsula, so we expect it at dawn. Showers and thunderstorms in the northeast quadrant of the peninsulawhich can be strong and sometimes accompanied by hail. Temperatures will drop across much of the country, with the drop being “notable” in areas of the northern third of the peninsula, timidly exceeding 34°C in the Guadalquivir Valley and other areas of the southern interior.

During Wednesday The storm centred on the British Isles will extend its range to the north and northeast of the peninsulaAtmospheric instability persists in large areas of the north, east and south-east of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Showers and thunderstorms are expected from early morning, with the probability of being locally strong in some of these areas. There will also be rain, although less intense, in the Cantabrian region and in the north of Galicia.

For Thursday there is uncertainty but the most likely is that the storm will extend its radius of action very far to the northeast of the peninsula, which could reduce atmospheric instability, with precipitation only in the Pyrenees, the Cantabrian coast and some areas of the eastern peninsula. Temperatures would drop across much of the country, given “abnormally” cool in areas of the northeast quadrant of the peninsulaStrong winds could blow on part of the Galician coast, in the Ampurdán and in the Canary Islands, according to the Aemet spokesperson.

The trend for Friday is that the core of the storm will move towards the Cantabrian Sea, particularly affecting the northern third of the peninsula, with locally intense rainfall, without major changes in temperature. For the weekend, the precipitation associated with the storm would affect the north and northeast of the peninsula on Saturday, with very intense rains possible in the northeast, while on Sunday it seems that the rains would be limited to the Pyrenees. In general, temperatures they would go down on Saturday and go back up on Sunday.
