Moldova’s former prosecutor general became the first official presidential candidate

Moldova’s Central Election Commission registered today, September 2, the first official presidential candidate: former Attorney General Alexander Stoianoglo. So far, he is the only one who has submitted to the Central Election Commission the sheets of signatures collected by the initiative group.

Of the 25,088 signatures, 17,925 were valid. According to the law, to participate in the elections, each presidential candidate must provide no less than 15,000 and no more than 25,000 signatures collected in half of the administrative-territorial units of the country. The CCA has registered 12 groups of initiatives and three more applications are being considered. The deadline for submitting signature sheets is September 20.

Let us recall that Alexandru Stoianoglo was declared an independent candidate, supported by the Socialist Party (PSRM). The former prosecutor himself says that, being a supporter of European integration, he has no political experience. However, he is confident that he will be able to “communicate with politicians who have not communicated with each other for several years.”

According to the leader of the PSRM Igor DodonStoyanoglo will advance to the second round with maya sanduwho has every chance of winning. The former president again called on his colleagues in the opposition to consolidate their position in order to prevent the current head of state from receiving a second term on October 20.

“Now we have the people’s candidate, the candidate of common commitment, to support. Stoyanoglo will advance to the second round and win there.” — Dodon wrote on his Telegram channel.
