President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the KSES “Tsar” in Kalbajar, the KSES “Toganali” in Goygol district

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev On September 2, he participated in the opening of the 4.3 MW small hydroelectric power plant (KSES) “Zar” of OJSC “Azerenergy” in the Kalbajar district and, through the SCADA system, in the new 4.1 MW KSES “Toganali” in the Goygol district. opened the

AZERTAC reports that the Head of State was informed about the work carried out.

It was reported that the process of creating hydroelectric power plants that will produce “green energy” on rivers, including springs and meltwaters of the Lesser Caucasus mountain range, whose sources are located in Azerbaijan, is continuing systematically.

The 4.3-megawatt “Tsar” small hydroelectric power plant of OJSC “AzerEnergy” in the Kalbajar district of Azerbaijan, where this year was declared “the year of solidarity for the good of the green world”, and the 4.1-megawatt “Toganali” small hydroelectric power plant in Goygol The district that will host COP29 were built in just one year. Considered an innovative engineering feat, the machine rooms of these stations are equipped with European-made turbines, generators and digital remote control equipment. The stations are integrated into the country’s centralized optical cable network and SCADA system with 24-core fiber optic cable lines.

To supply water to these power plants, AzerEnergy has built water intake facilities on the Zar and Kurakchay rivers in compliance with ecological standards. Special hydrotechnical facilities have been built to ensure the protection of river life, flora and fauna in general. In total, 14,000 meters of bypass pipelines were laid in difficult terrain for both stations, and special attention was paid to protecting the river ecosystem.

In total, up to 25 million kilowatt-hours of green energy will be produced at the Tsar and Toganali nuclear power plants, which will save 5.5 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevent more than 10,000 tons of carbon emissions.

A video was then shown about the construction of the KSES “Tsar” and “Toganali” and the conditions created.

President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the stations.

It should be noted that the commissioning of the Zar and Toganali stations is a contribution to the mission of continuously increasing the use of green energy in the energy system and is important for achieving the goal of environmental sustainability.

The transformation of the Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur regions into regions with net-zero carbon emissions in all seasons of the year, full supply of “green” energy production and transfer of surplus energy to the country’s energy system strengthens Azerbaijan’s regional energy independence and has a positive effect on environmental protection. This is also an important step towards achieving the goal of sustainability and environmental sustainability in the country’s energy production.

At the same time, it was noted that, following the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev to turn the territories liberated from occupation into a “green” energy zone in order to effectively use the hydroelectric potential of the region, OJSC “Azerenerji” started construction of 6 small hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 37.5 MW. These hydroelectric power plants are planned to be put into operation in the first half of 2025.

In total, these plants will produce more than 110 million kilowatts of electricity, saving more than 24 million cubic meters of natural gas and avoiding the emission of more than 44 thousand tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

It was reported that 32 hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 270 MW have been put into operation in Karabakh and eastern Zangezur, and 492 million kilowatt-hours of emission-free electricity have been produced to date. This has saved 110 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevented 200,000 tons of carbon emissions.

It should be noted that the installed capacity of hydroelectric power plants in the region will reach 500 MW, and the annual production volume will reach 1.5-1.8 billion kilowatt-hours, which will save 350-400 million cubic meters of natural gas – 650-750 thousand tons. A decrease in carbon dioxide emissions is expected. In comparison, if the average annual production of hydroelectric power plants in other regions of Azerbaijan is 1.2 billion kilowatt-hours, in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur this volume is 50 percent higher.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev On September 2, he took part in the opening of the 4.3 MW small hydroelectric power plant (KSES) “Tsar” of OJSC “Azerenergy” in Kalbajar district and, through the SCADA system, in the new 4.1 MW KSES “Toganali” in Goygol district. At the same time, the Head of State was informed about the construction of 6 power plants with a total capacity of 37.5 MW in Kalbajar, Lachin and Agdara.

AZERTAC reported on this matter.
