Comet C/2024 S1 (ATLAS) has disappeared from images of the LASCO C2 space coronagraph after its closest approach to the Sun, indicating its destruction.
Oku.Az This was reported to TASS by Leonid Yelenin, an astronomer and researcher at the Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The comet was discovered on September 27, 2024 by the ATLAS project telescope in Hawaii. On October 28, it evaporated after approaching the Sun.
It is reported that the celestial body was destroyed under the influence of the high temperature of the sun.
