Türkiye needs Russia’s influence in Georgia to be zero: expert

Türkiye is interested in weakening Russia’s influence in Georgia, said Henry Sardaryan, dean of the Faculty of Management and Politics at MGIMO.

“There they smile at us, they hug us with great tenderness, but the reality is that in this region there is a zero-sum game. That is to say, if something is good for us, then it is bad for the Turks, if it is good for the Turks, then it is bad for us, it cannot be any other way.” — the expert told Sputnik radio.

According to him, there is no formula that is good for all parties.

“If it were possible to create a formula for shared prosperity, when it suits us and them, then probably over the last 300 or 400 years our previous leaders would have done it. But for some reason, every time a major confrontation began with a military clash between Russia and Türkiye.” – noted Sardaryan.

As reported EADailythe ruling Georgian Dream won the October 26 elections. The opposition calls the party “Russian Dream”, accusing it of being pro-Russian, although “Dream” declares a European orientation.

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze After the election, he stated that Georgia would not restore diplomatic relations with Russia because of “the issues of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.”

“There are no plans in this regard, because 10% of the territory is occupied by the Russian Federation,” – said Kobakhidze.
