The mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, has called an emergency meeting this Saturday to respond to the needs of solidarity with the Valencian Community, after the devastating effects of DANA. During this meeting, which took place in the presence of the Minister of the Presidency, Ángel Lorén, the Minister of Citizen Participation, Alfonso Mendoza, and those responsible for the Zaragoza Fire Department and the local police, immediate actions were defined . the city will take to provide support to the affected areas.
Chueca announced that This Sunday, two units of the Local Police Support Unit (UAPO) will be sent to Catarrojaa city that suffered severe flood damage. “It is essential that our resources are available to help those who need it most during this critical time,” the mayor said, emphasizing the importance of interagency collaboration in emergency situations.
Since the start of the crisis, Zaragoza City Hall claims to be in constant communication with Valencia City Hall and the Generalitat, “offering help from the first moment”. Chueca recalled that, just 24 hours after the disaster, ten firefighters were deployed, accompanied by rescue dogs and divers, who headed to the area to deal with the immediate emergency. “Zaragoza was the first city to make resources available to help the Valencian Community”, stressed the advisor.
During the meeting, additional requests received from the Valencian Community authorities were also discussed. Chueca announced that more resources and personnel will be coordinated according to the demands that arise on the ground.
In this context, the advisor indicated that, following the requests received from the Aragonese Executive during the meeting, “two UAPO units will be sent to protect the resources and materials that have been deployed in the area” as reinforcement to the media sent by the Government of Aragon this Saturday.
“The objective is to ensure that all the means sent arrive at their destination and are used effectively. We work so that the aid we send arrives on time and corresponds to the needs on the ground,” Chueca said.
The mayor concluded by reaffirming the commitment of Zaragoza City Hall to continue collaborating and coordinating efforts to support the communities affected by DANA. “We are in this together and our mission is to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most effectively”he expressed.
Donations
During the meeting, the mayor also reported on the collection of emergency products at the Zaragoza shelter. In the last hours, 50 pallets of essential products such as water, milk, food were collected non-perishable and hygiene products, which are already sent to Valencia. “Tomorrow we will continue to receive donations, because the need is urgent,” Chueca added.
In addition, a donation channel has been activated for citizens through Bizum and a bank account in collaboration with Ibercaja, which has already collected more than 153,000 euros in two days. “It’s impressive to see how the residents of Zaragoza have mobilized to help, this Saturday 50 pallets were collected,” said the mayor, highlighting the community’s commitment to this tragedy.
