Ukraine’s allies are having a hard time keeping their promises – EADaily, September 3, 2024 – Politics News, Ukraine News

Ukraine’s allies are struggling to deliver on promises made earlier this year to strengthen the country’s air defense systems, Bloomberg reported on Sept. 2.

“Several NATO allies have yet to meet commitments reaffirmed at the alliance summit in Washington in July… The Russian economy has been able to produce missiles and munitions at a rate that often outstrips the ability of Ukrainian allies to supply weapons,” – the agency reported.

In addition, Bloomberg reports that Ukraine has lost a significant portion of its energy capacity. Citizens are increasingly relying on diesel generators to cope with prolonged power outages. And the prospect of restoring electricity supplies before the start of the heating season is becoming increasingly doubtful.

Prior to this, on August 30, members of the Bundestag from the Sarah Wagenknecht Union (BSW) party said that aid to Ukraine poses a threat to NATO. According to them, the total cost of the German government’s military assistance to Ukraine this year has already amounted to 7.1 billion euros. The party noted that the danger of further escalation and expansion of the conflict “remains high.”

EU chief diplomat Josep Borrell Earlier it was reported that the military reserves of the European Union countries were depleted due to the transfer of weapons to kyiv. According to him, the conflict became a “wake-up call” for the EU in the field of military capabilities.
