Apple’s future minicomputers will lack one important attribute

The next generation of Mac minicomputers could be the most revolutionary in 14 years. The main difference is the abandonment of “USB Type-A” interfaces, which will entail significant changes in the device’s design.

According to reports, the new Mac mini will be equipped with the latest M4 processor and will have an updated set of interfaces, including five USB Type-C ports, a network port, HDMI, and a headphone port. At the same time, the new Mac Mini is expected to use an internal power supply, which is good news for such a small device.

The abandonment of the “USB Type-A” port may be a concern for some users, as many computer accessories, such as adapters for wireless mice, are still connected via this interface. However, it is believed to be a step towards unification and the modern approach already implemented in other Apple devices.

For the first time, the design of the new Mac Mini will include a front panel that will house a few USB Type-C ports. The question of their number remains open, because five ports can only be found on the high-end version of the device.
