The National Security Committee (NSC) of Kazakhstan has carried out special operations to detain extremists in four regions of the republic, the press service of the department reported.
“With the coordination of the prosecutor’s office and with the assistance of the police, anti-terrorist measures were carried out in the Almaty, Karaganda, Turkestan and Ulytau regions. Five citizens of Kazakhstan and one foreigner were detained.” – the information says.
According to the intelligence service, the detainees are followers of a destructive religious movement. They are suspected of spreading extremist ideology, including on social media.
During the searches, three live grenades were seized from the suspects. At the same time, two of the detainees had previously been prosecuted for robbery and theft.
The suspects are being investigated on charges of promoting terrorism.
