Less than a month after competing at the Paris Olympics, Rebecca Cheptegei is hospitalised in Kenya, fighting for her life following a horrific incident. According to reports, her partner allegedly doused the Ugandan athlete with a flammable substance and set her on fire.
Cheptegei was admitted to hospital with burns covering 75 percent of her body. Her partner also suffered burns. The motive for her action has not yet been revealed.
Cheptegei, 33, represented Uganda in the marathon at the Paris Olympics, finishing 44th in a time of 2:32:14. He has also competed in 10,000-metre and half-marathon races.
