Thousands of volunteersas has happened every day since DANA destroyed the villages in the south of Valencia, this Sunday morning they crossed the bridges which separate the capital from these affected municipalities.
Many people wanted to continue contributing to the cleaning work despite the ban decreed by the Generalitat Valenciana which restricts mobility on the access roads to this area devastated by water.
“I’ve been tossing and turning since 6 a.m. I can’t sleep. I’m dead, crippled, but my blood boils if I don’t go” comments one of the volunteers from a group of WhatsApp where they find out about the latest news from Catarroja.
Late this Saturday, the Valencian government published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV) the decree of the Ministry of Justice and the Interior which “restricts the circulation and access of pedestrians”.
“To guarantee the mobility of all essential and complementary intervention services, as well as all companies responsible for guaranteeing the supply of basic services in water, energy and communication, as well as food distribution, proceed with their repair and their cleaning, with the ultimate aim of guaranteeing normal conditions of use by citizens.
In addition, this Sunday the southern coast of Valencia is on orange alert due to localized precipitation of 40 liters in one hour and 100 in twelve hours, with thunderstorms, which may be accompanied by hail.
The presence of National Police officers at the entrance to the pedestrian bridge which constituted the main traffic in recent days changed the plans of many volunteers who walked a hundred meters to cross another nearby bridge.

Dressed as they are today behind cleaning utensils, the volunteers’ passage created a new ‘access road’ along the shoulders of Avinguda Sud, a four-lane, heavily trafficked road where EMU, fire or army vehicles, as well as private vehicles.
