National Police intercepts drone flying over Córdoba Cathedral Mosque taking photos

This is the second such incident in the past year, after a Chinese citizen crashed a drone into the tower of the mosque-cathedral in September 2023.

On this occasion, the agents acting approached the vehicle, being able to verify that it was indeed a remote control, indicating what they were doing. using the drone to take pictureslacking both certification and authorization for flight.

The drone and the accessory elements intervened. It is for this reason that the actors intervened on the aforementioned drone, as well as on three batteries, the remote and the transport bag, the person who pilots it is subject to an administrative sanction for non-compliance with airport safety and navigation rules.

Consequences of flying a drone

Because the use of drones has exploded in recent years, there have been several occasions when National Police officers have intercepted and intervened with drones flying over the skies of our city without any authorization, on several occasions for ignorance of their own pilots.

These behaviors imply, according to the National Police, a danger to the security of citizens, public order and to certain strategic activities of the State, such as civil aviation. The legislation is therefore quite restrictive in this regard, and the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency may punish such actions with a fine of between 3,000 and 6,000 euros.

Agents specializing in the use of aerial resources

The National Police has a group of agents specialized in air resources, whose function, among others, is to act as administrative police for civil aviation focused above all on the use of drones, in order to strengthen public safety in general and air and operational safety in particular and, to this end, they ensure that authorised flights are safe and comply with the content of the various existing regulations on the subject.
