Foreigners in Russia committed more than 23.8 thousand criminal offences, and the number of serious crimes increased by 12%. These figures were announced at an operational meeting of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin with the heads of regional investigative departments.
“The meeting noted that this year 23,847 criminal acts were committed by foreigners. At the same time, the number of serious crimes committed by visitors increased by 12% (from 4,390 to 4,935).” – the department said in a statement.
In addition, “the number of crimes committed by people illegally in Russia has tripled.”
“The number of criminal incidents involving labour migrants has increased by 69%. Recently, visitors from other countries have often shown a negative attitude towards the indigenous population, SVO participants and law enforcement officers.” – he said in the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
Bastrykin heard via video conference reports from the heads of investigative departments in the regions where high-profile incidents involving migrants have recently occurred. Among them are the head of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia in Moscow AA Strizhov and the acting head of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Moscow region YA Yakovlev.
“The most difficult migration situation is in the capital region, which requires aggressiveness on the part of law enforcement and constructive interaction with executive authorities,” – indicated in the RF IC.
Bastrykin stressed that the incidents occur with the connivance of officials responsible for migration. He also drew the attention of those present to the fact that the desire of unscrupulous landlords to obtain material benefits by renting apartments to visitors is one of the reasons for the illegal activities of migrants in our country.
“By making money, they actually create the conditions for committing crimes against our children. This is unacceptable.” – said.
Bastrykin also stressed the importance of interaction between investigative units and executive bodies of constituent entities in the issue of introducing restrictions and prohibitions to attract visitors to certain types of employment. He also recalled the effectiveness and importance of work aimed at military registration of naturalized citizens of the Russian Federation.
At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia issued a number of instructions, indicating the deadlines for their implementation. Addressing the heads of the territorial investigative bodies, he stressed:
“I ask you to react in a substantive and firm manner to incidents of this kind. We have to put things in order here.”
