From a building in Roquetas de Mar, Almería, a young man shot several times at passers-by. The reasons which pushed him to commit this act, which could have been put people’s lives in danger that at that time they were passing through the area.

The Civil Guard of the Main Post of Roquetas de Mar investigated a under 14 years old as the alleged perpetrator of four bodily crimes, two of which were less serious, after firing a long air rifle from a building. The events that occurred in mid-October last left four injured victims of varying severity, one of them requiring surgical intervention.

The events took place on one of the city’s main avenues and the victims were beaten by pellet shooting. According to the command of the Civil Guard of Almería, several complaints have been filed.

From that moment, the agents carried out the first investigations to identify the origin of the gunshots, which would have come from a building close to the reported events. The investigations included operational surveillance in the area to prevent new episodes, as well as searches in two homes.

During the second search carried out by the agents, the 14-year-old minor residing at the home admitted his involvement in the events and that he was the author of the shots. During his exploration, he explained that had dismantled the air gun and had disposed of the pieces at different times to avoid detection. Officers managed to recover several parts of the used weapon from a container near his home.

In addition to guaranteeing the safety and tranquility of neighbors, the agents of the Civil Guard of Roquetas de Mar have proposed a global approach to the minor within the framework of the preventive protocols of vulnerable situationsand once identified as the alleged perpetrator of the events, the case was transferred to the Almería Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office for evaluation, which will determine the corresponding legal measures.

The Civil Guard reaffirms its commitment to preventing this type of situation through coordinated work with citizens, promoting respect for the norms and values ​​that guarantee coexistence and social harmony. An example of this work is the clarification of another similar case that occurred last month. August in the town of Alboxwhere officers resolved an incident involving a juvenile related to the misuse of an airgun, once again demonstrating its effectiveness in protecting the community.

It also highlights the we need to raise awareness on the responsible use of airguns, which, although considered non-lethal, can cause significant damage if not handled correctly.
