A councillor from the Valencian town of Alfara del Patriarca is arrested and investigated for harassment of his ex-partner

Members of the Civil Guard arrested a man, a councilor of the Valencian municipality of Alfara of the Patriarcafor allegedly harassing and threatening his former romantic partner, sources close to the case confirmed to Europa Press.

After being arrested, the mayor went to the Court of Instruction 3 of Sueca on Saturday, which was on duty, and accepted his provisional release with the precautionary measure of removal and prohibition of communication concerning the victim, in a case opened for the offence of harassment/threats, without prejudice to a subsequent qualification.

As confirmed by sources from the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV), the court recused itself from the procedure in favour of the Courts of Violence against Women of Valencia, competent to continue the investigation, in accordance with the Integral Law of VioGén, since the plaintiff has her domicile in said judicial district.

After learning of these events, reported by Levante-EMV, the government team of Alfara del Patriarca, formed by PSPV and compromiseexpressed his “firm” condemnation and “solidarity” with the victim.

In a statement, he said that the institution of the Alfara City Hall, like any public entity, “must represent a space free of violence and, above all, must demonstrate a special sensitivity with the protection of women against gender-based violence.

“These behaviors – he added – have no place in our society and must always be reported and rejected, with force.” This is why the government team demanded the mayor’s resignation is under investigation until the situation is clarified through legal channels.

And he added: “Public functions involve a duty to set an example and the seriousness of the facts investigated is incompatible with the work of an advisor in the provincial corporation.”

For his part, the PP spokesperson in the Valencian Cortes, Juanfran Perez Llorca, He told the media, after being questioned about the arrest by the Council of Mediators, that, as the municipal group communicated to him, he is an independent councilor and not a member of the PP, so they cannot expel him.

If he were an activist, he added, the expulsion would be processedas stated in the party statutes. “I condemn these attitudes, the PP clearly condemns them. If he were a militant, we would already be dealing with the expulsion, so we will talk to the group,” he added.

On the other hand, the Compromís Mediator, Joan Baldoviasked the PP to demand that the mayor leave politics: “People who commit these acts of sexist violence do not necessarily have to be in politics and the parties must be very demanding.”
