A doctor from Clínica Universidad de Navarra, awarded for his great contribution to cancer treatment

Dr. Ignacio Melero, co-director of immunology and immunotherapy at Cima and the University of Navarra Clinicreceived this afternoon P.Constant and Vital Prize for research in biometrics and health prevention for his scientific career. This is the tenth edition of a prize promoted by “laSexta” and the AXA Foundationand which the jury highlighted Dr. Melero’s “exceptional” ability “to integrate fundamental research at the highest level with clinical research”“.

He researcherwho was traveling abroad, participated in the event through a previously recorded video and was represented at awards ceremony by his wife, Belén Palencia.

He Dr Melero particularly appreciated the work of all the researchers and specialists with whom he shares projects and advances in cancer immunotherapyboth at CCUN and at OXCIO at the University of Oxford.

Professor of immunologyhe Dr Melero He carries out his work as a specialist and researcher between the University of Navarra and the University of Oxford, institutions that collaborate in the search for new immunotherapy therapies against cancer.

THE candidacy of Dr. Melero was presented by Dr. María José Alonso, professor of pharmacy at the University of Santiago de Compostela, and for whom the work of Dr. Melero demonstrated “a very high impact in cancer treatmentnot only through its specific clinical developments, but also through the dissemination of its knowledge”, which it describes as “disruptive and profoundly translational”.

With Dr. Melerodoctors Luis Álvarez-Vallina, from the CNIO, and Salvador Aznar-Benitah, from IRB Barcelona, ​​received jointly the Prize for the best biomedical publication of the year; while the Prize for the best dissemination campaign in medical prevention was awarded to “A tailor-made suit”, from the Spanish Group of Cancer Patients (GEPAC). Dr Manuel Valiente, also from the CNIO, received the Young Talent Prize.

In addition, Vital signs and constants paid tribute to Dr Bartolomé Beltrán, doctor and reference in health dissemination in Spain, who died last February.
