Iranian Parliament Speaker visits Lebanon
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of the Iranian Parliament, visited Beirut on Saturday, where he was received by Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati, the Iranian news agency IRNA reports.
He then went to the site of the Israeli bombing that took place on Thursday in Beirut, in the company of two Hezbollah deputies, as also reported by the IRNA agency, confirmed by a photographer from Agence France-Press.
According to a source close to the pro-Iran Shiite movement, the attack, which left twenty-two dead, targeted the head of Hezbollah’s security apparatus, Wafic Safa, whose fate is still unknown. Thursday’s attacks were the deadliest in the center of the capital since the start of the open war between Israel and Hezbollah.
“I came to Lebanon to convey the message of the people, of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and of the Iranian officials, to declare that we are, as always, together with the nation, the government of Lebanon and the resistance”declared Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf before his departure.
