A forest fire continues to burn for the second day in the Gal region of Abkhazia

The situation with the forest fire around the village of Maguijara in the Gal region remains tense, but is under control, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Abkhazia.

“At this time there is no immediate threat to private homes. However, dry and hot weather continues to contribute to the spread of the fire.” – the ministry clarified.

Since the morning of September 30, Gal City firefighters have repeatedly gone out to extinguish the forest fire. The day before, strong winds and warm weather caused a natural fire to become a crown fire. The fire quickly spread from the brush to the trees. The flames moved towards rural farms and farmland. A headquarters was organized to combat the elements. Firefighters from Ochamchira and Tkuarchal were also sent to eliminate it. At least 20 hectares of citrus groves were burned.

The permanent burning of trees and brush continues. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Abkhazia are fighting the fire for the second day.
