In an interview published by Aston Martinthe Brazilian praises his former Minardi teammate: “I think Fernando is as good as the best. I’m a fan of Ayrton Senna, like all Brazilians, and there are recent legends like Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and now Max Verstappenand it is very difficult to compare drivers from all eras.
“If I had to choose a driver for my team, I would choose Fernando. I think he was better than Schumacher when they faced each other and, the Brazilians will be angry, I would say he is also better than Senna.” said Marques.
The difference between Ayrton and Fernando, he said, was the mistakes they made on track. The Asturian is very solid and almost doesn’t succeed: “Senna was incredible, a natural talent, but the truth is that he made more mistakes than Fernando. Fernando quickly learned to drive a race not only fast, but intelligently, something that I would say about Hamilton.
“Fernando is probably the best, along with Hamilton. I think Fernando should be at his level in terms of number of titlesbut sometimes he didn’t have the right car. I think he deserves more titles than he gets. These two world titles are great, but they are not a true reflection of his talent. There should be more than that,” Marques says.
Convinced that he deserves more titles (he has two), his former teammate at Minardi is full of praise for the Aston Martin driver. And despite the data, Fernando is considered by many to be one of the best in Formula 1 history.
