A gas department employee was convicted for the explosion at the Sharur Trade Center.

The trial of the criminal case of Nurlan Yusifov (probationer), accused of negligence, has ended in the Sharur District Court.

According to information obtained by Pravda.az, the verdict was read out at the trial presided over by Judge Mehdi Aliyev.

According to the court’s verdict, he was found guilty of committing the crime under Article 314.1 (negligence) of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 1 year and 6 months of prison labor, with 15% of his monthly income deducted for the state.

According to the indictment, Nurlan Yusifov worked as a foreman-locksmith at the Sharur District Gas Operation Department. From January 2023, he was entrusted with the task of supervising gas installations and gas appliances at the Sharur Trade Center, built on a plot of land owned by a resident of the village of Dudanga in the Sharur region. The accused grossly violated the requirements of clause 8.10 of the “Rules of technical operation of the gas industry”, did not carry out a technical inspection of the trade center and gas equipment at the facility from the moment of installation of the gas meter, did not check whether there was a gas leak and the semicircular gas valve on the gas line was not working; did not check and did not draw up the corresponding act.

Thus, in 2023, an explosion occurred in the shopping center without a gas leak. As a result, 1,307 square meters of the shopping center building were burned, 208,000 manats and the property of more than 60 victims who were engaged in the sale of various goods were damaged.

Following the incident, Nurlan Yusifov was detained and charged with criminal liability.
