In Georgia, today, November 14, the general population census officially began.
Both citizens of Georgia and citizens of foreign countries are subject to the census: those who live on the territory of Georgia and plan to stay more than 12 months and those who are stateless.
As a result of the census, updated information will be obtained on the size of the population, its age and gender structure, employment, income, education, health and housing.
Data collection will last until December 19 and will include two stages. Self-registration of citizens will continue until November 23. Interested parties will be able to fill out the questionnaires electronically, without the participation of interviewers, on the Sakstat website. Starting November 29, Sakstat employees will begin door-to-door visits. 12 thousand interviewers participate in the census.
Simultaneously with the population census, an agricultural census is carried out: households will be asked about the area and purpose of agricultural land, the varieties of grapes grown, the number of cattle, poultry, etc.
In high mountain towns, which will be difficult to access in winter, the census is carried out in advance.
Preliminary census results will be published in June 2025 and final results in June 2026.
The last time a census was conducted in Georgia was in 2014. At that time, 3,713,804 people lived in the country.
