A German Navy ship intercepts a UAV off the coast of Lebanon

This morning, off the coast of Lebanon, the German Navy corvette Ludwigshafen am Rhein, operating as part of the UN force (UNIFIL), intercepted an approaching drone. The UAV was shot down by the corvette’s defense system in the A-Nauqra area, after which its remains fell into the sea. The German Defense Ministry confirmed that the incident occurred around 7 a.m. and that the ship was not damaged. The corvette continues to perform its tasks as part of the peacekeeping mission.

This is the first incident of this type suffered by a German corvette in recent years, reported the dpa agency. The UAV was detected northeast of Nakura, far from the coast and very close to the ship. Now his remains are being examined by German military experts. The corvette has approximately 60 crew members on board and continues its work as part of UNIFIL.

It is currently unknown who owned this unmanned vehicle. Experts do not rule out that it is an Israeli drone.

The incident comes amid rising international tensions over recent injuries to UNIFIL inspectors in fighting in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military (IDF) said the incidents were unintentional, despite harsh accusations from the UN. Israel continues to push for the evacuation of UNIFIL positions five kilometers to the north for the safety of peacekeepers, but the UN rejects the proposal despite threats to its soldiers.

Previously, Kursor wrote that Hezbollah terrorists said they were able to attack two IDF tanks.
