Their lives were buried by tons of mud, mud and despair. Many have lost everything and those they loved most, and it will take time for them to regain some of the normality before the devastating DANA that devastated the Valencian Community on October 29.
In the middle of the drama, between the pipes, the comings and goings of the machines, the brooms and the tears, a pause is necessary; escape such a dramatic reality and enlighten hearts flooded with sadness with simplicity. A group of musicians from Priego de Córdoba, who traveled to Ground Zero to help with essential goods and with their flamenco.
Kike Jiménez, head of the expedition, told ABC that “on November 8, we organized a concert for raise funds for Valencia. With all the help we took my 4×4 and went to the disaster area.
They stopped at Algemesiin the El Raval neighborhood, “and we were very shocked by what we saw. Despite the images that reach us, when we are there we are overwhelmed by reality: everything is full of mud, the flooded garages, the piles of destroyed cars and the neighbors faces…,” Kike remembers.
The group, which only left for one day, remained three. “We went to Paiporta and there we offered our help with whatever was necessary. The truth is that in this place there is a great organizationwith help delivery points for those affected. We met a local who owned a blinds store (which, of course, had been destroyed) and he was the one who guided us,” says Jiménez.
“In those moments, it feels lack of joy and at one point, with the guitar that one of the victims left me, I started playing. The neighbors were excited and we ended up singing in the street,” says the musician.
Gift of kings
The group wants to do more for Valencia and is organizing a concert for December (which will probably take place on the 20th), in Priego de Córdoba. “We will ask participants to bring a wrapped gift or pay 10 euros for entry.
