A high-level event on global initiatives was held at the UN within the framework of COP29

In the framework of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly and Climate Week in New York, a high-level side event on the global initiatives included in the COP29 Presidency’s Action Agenda was organized at the headquarters of the organization.

The report states that the meeting organized by the COP29 Presidency was attended by specialized UN organizations, senior officials of international development banks, member states and delegations of states parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change, diplomats, politicians, members of civil society and representatives of the private sector.

Speaking at the event, COP29 Chief Negotiator, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev, provided detailed information to the guests on the global initiatives included in the COP29 agenda. He said in his speech that the COP29 Presidency agenda represents an ambitious effort to advance on all important climate fronts and includes a number of key priorities such as energy, finance, agriculture, water, cities, human development, as well as the climate-peace nexus. According to him, finance is an important mechanism for implementing climate action.

The Azerbaijani diplomat gave detailed information on 14 initiatives included in the agenda of the COP29 Presidency. He said that the COP29 initiatives will make an important contribution to climate action. Expressing his gratitude to the UN specialized agencies for their support in the process of preparing the global initiatives of the COP29 Presidency, the Chief Negotiator delivered his speech in front of high-ranking representatives of these agencies.

Speaking at the event, senior representatives of the organization emphasized the importance of the COP29 Presidency’s global initiatives in the relevant fields and expressed their support for their implementation.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs’ speech at the event was later announced. In the speech, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan is ready to set an example in raising ambitions and enabling climate action, and called on all countries, organizations, charitable and financial institutions and all individuals to join the COP29 presidency in this important mission and act quickly and decisively.

During the event, questions from delegations were answered in detail. Discussions were held on the progress of the COP29 Presidency’s action priorities and opportunities for cooperation and partnership to unify global efforts in the fight against climate change.
