Within the framework of COP29, a High Level Session was held with the World Economic Forum on “The power of cooperation: joint efforts for net zero” organized by the Ministry of Economy, the Export and Investment Promotion Agency – AZPROMO and the World Economic Forum.

At the event, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov expressed his opinion on the principles of joint efforts to combat climate change, global policy in this field and the contributions of the private sector. It was noted that to ensure positive changes in this matter, it is important to maintain inclusive measures and achieve sustainable development. In the context of global climate issues, an equitable approach that includes all people is also an important issue. Azerbaijan’s goals in the field of sustainable growth and green economy and the work carried out were reported. To achieve the goals of green energy in our country, attention was drawn to concrete measures aimed at developing advanced technologies and innovative solutions, and the importance of international cooperation in this field was highlighted.

The Director General of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, expressed her opinion on the importance of adapting global trade policies to climate change and supporting developing countries in this context.

The Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, Laziz Kudratov, expressed his opinion on international cooperation against global climate change, the initiatives of the countries of the region in this direction and the importance of implementing joint projects in the field of renewable energies.

Jim Huay Neo, Executive Director of the World Economic Forum and moderator of the session, emphasized that the transition to zero carbon emissions creates great opportunities for economic growth and job creation, as well as the importance of a joint and comprehensive approach to ensure a just life. distribution of benefits and costs.

Rich Lesser, global president of Boston Consulting Group and co-chair of the CEO Climate Leaders Alliance, noted that between 2019 and 2022 they managed to reduce their total level of emissions by 10%, while increasing their total revenues by 18%. the importance of closer cooperation with states. It was stated that clear policies and strong partnership mechanisms in this area are crucial to achieving positive changes.

Andrew Forrest, CEO of the company “Fortescue”, highlighted the importance of obtaining energy from green sources in the fight against climate change. It was stated that achieving global climate goals is possible thanks to increased investments in the renewable energy sector and the promotion of technological innovations.

The parties emphasized the need for joint actions at the global level to resolve the climate crisis. All governments, companies and civil society organizations are called to accept shared responsibility and join the fight against climate change with concrete action plans.
