The Civil Guard arrested in Caspe (Zaragoza) an individual in the advanced process of jihadist radicalization, who had been the subject of an investigation since at least 2017 and who is dedicated to indoctrinating others. This man was arrested as part of Operation Hadaba, developed by the Information Service of the Civil Guard under the direction of the Central Investigative Court number 1 and the Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court. The judge decreed his iincarcerated for committing terrorist crimes.
The investigation, explained by the Civil Guard, took place after the analysis of the information obtained within the first phase of Operation Almuasasa. In this operation, the Civil Guard, in collaboration with the FBI and with the coordination and support of Europol and Eurojust, neutralized on June 11 the main active web infrastructure globally, dedicated to facilitating terrorist content linked to the Islamic State media sphere, and several individuals have been arrested in Spain.
The detainee, according to the Civil Guard, has an unstable profile and this, combined with his jihadist activism, increases the level of risk he may present to national security. Its activity focused on distribution of content related to “martyrs and mujahideen” who act against Israel. Sources recall that many individuals who have carried out violent terrorist actions in Europe in recent years have a profile similar to that of the man detained in Caspe.
In 2019, the European Commission’s Steering Committee for Preventing Radicalization included among its strategic priorities the analysis of impact of mental problems in people who carry out sudden violent actions, they add from the Civil Guard.
