The Commission demands that the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) “immediately carry out all necessary emergency actions and carry out a complete hydrological study of the basin to undertake the works which provide a definitive solution to the pipeline in Leturupstream and downstream. This was stated by the Minister of Sustainable Development, Mercedes Gómez, during her visit to Letur, the municipality of Castilla-La Mancha most affected by DANA, on October 29.
“The regional government has been committed from the beginning to helping, which is why today in Letur and its districts we are analyzing the situation ‘in situ’ to act as quickly as possible in the territory, in coordination with the City Hall. -even for the recovery of infrastructure. hydraulic and taking into account the fact that we have problems collecting water“Gómez said.
Concerning the works that correspond to the Confederation, the advisor explained that “a hydrogeological study must be carried out on the entire slope that reaches the municipality, with the aim of undertaking infrastructure to prevent water from entering again into the city as she did. done.” And this study must “establish the alert systems which allow the municipality to have sufficient information on what is happening upstream to be able to alert citizens.
As for the damage, the hydraulic infrastructures of Letur were among the most affected by DANA, because the collectors of the sewerage network have disappeared and it is necessary to carry out “more comprehensive” action. In the meantime, the water treatment plant (STEP) does not appear to have suffered significant damage, except for sludge accumulation and clogging.
After an initial estimate, “there are 20 actions to be carried out in Letur to restore the supply, sewerage and sanitation service with a budget close to one million euros”. Among them, the cleaning and reconstruction of the collection houses of the Fuente Mayor and Fuente la Mina springs, their galleries and irrigation ditches, in addition to the replacement of the supply pipe that connects the springs to the reservoir and the station pumping.
The ditch on the creek bed also needs to be reconstructed to convey the waters to the traditional irrigation systems of Letur, replace the pumps of the pumping station, renew the entire route of the pipes or the fencing of the springs and the reservoir itself. even.
