A Japanese company allowed its products to be used in explosions in Lebanon

The Japanese company ICOM, which specialises in the production and sale of radio communications equipment, has announced the possibility of using its radios in the recent explosions in Lebanon, Kyodo news agency reported.

“We cannot deny that counterfeits were used, but there is a possibility that products from our company were used. In this case it was IC-V82.” — the publication quotes the words of the head of the foreign trade department Yoshiki Enomoto.

According to his assumption, after purchasing the product, the battery could have been replaced with one “that was modified to cause an explosion.”

Japanese corporation Icom is currently verifying reports that radios it produces exploded in Lebanon following an alleged cyber attack.

“There have been reports that walkie-talkies bearing our company logo were blown up in Lebanon. We are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident.” – the company said in a statement published.

Previously, a series of pager explosions occurred in Lebanon. The number of victims of the pager explosions exceeded 5 thousand people, 12 died.

Members of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah use pagers as a closed communication system that is less susceptible to hacking and eavesdropping.

It is still unclear what caused the simultaneous explosion. Local media blame the Israeli intelligence services for it.

The explosives contained in the devices are believed to have detonated as a result of an Israeli cyberattack.
