First of all, President Ilham Aliyev personally met with the Chairman of the Italian Council of Ministers, Giorgio Meloni.
The meeting then continued with the participation of the delegations.
Giorgio Meloni stressed that the visit of our Head of State to Italy was very effective, noted that detailed talks were held with President Ilham Aliyev on the issues on the agenda of bilateral relations between Italy and Azerbaijan and stated that new directions of cooperation between the two countries were determined. In this regard, there was a detailed exchange of views on the expansion of bilateral economic and trade relations between our countries, especially in the industrial and energy sectors, and the development of relations in the humanitarian and cultural directions. The importance of the Italy-Azerbaijan university project between ADA University and Italian universities for the development of humanitarian-cultural relations was especially highlighted.
Satisfaction was expressed regarding the bilateral cooperation in the field of energy. In this regard, the importance of the TAP project, its role in the energy security of Italy and European countries today, and views on increasing TAP’s transmission capacity were discussed.
The Italian Prime Minister thanked Azerbaijan for the humanitarian assistance provided to Ukraine and noted the role of our country in this regard. He thanked President Ilham Aliyev for the invitation to COP29 and stressed that he would be happy to take part in this event. The Italian Prime Minister said that his country is ready to provide all necessary support to Azerbaijan for the successful holding of COP29. In this regard, they noted the close cooperation of the Italian representative on climate change with the Azerbaijani COP delegation and the participation of the Azerbaijani COP president in the meeting of ecology ministers held in Italy within the framework of the G20. noted.
During the conversation, the identification of new areas of cooperation between the Italian company “Eni SPA” and SOCAR was noted with satisfaction, and views were exchanged on the issue of participation of these companies in joint projects in third countries.
The meeting addressed the issue of Azerbaijan and Italy’s participation in joint investment projects in third countries. The importance of the Middle Corridor was highlighted and prospects for Italian companies to take advantage of the opportunities of this corridor were discussed.
The role of the commission on issues of economic cooperation between Italy and Azerbaijan was discussed and it was agreed to hold a meeting of the commission next year.
President Ilham Aliyev invited the Italian Prime Minister to an official visit to Azerbaijan. Giorgio Meloni gladly accepted the invitation.
