A new and powerful hurricane has emerged in the Atlantic Ocean, heading towards the US and Cuba

A new hurricane has formed in the Atlantic Ocean and bears the name Oscar, reported the National Hurricane Center (NHC) of the United States.

According to the center, the hurricane is now about 265 kilometers east of the Bahamas and about 470 miles east of the city of Camagüey, Cuba. The maximum wind speed at the hurricane’s epicenter is 129 km/h.

The NHC notes that the hurricane will hit the Turks and Caicos Islands (a British overseas territory) and create a “dangerous storm surge” there. Additionally, climate changes due to the hurricane are expected in the southeastern Bahamas and eastern Cuba, where flooding is possible.

The Cuban government has issued a hurricane warning.

In late September, Hurricane Helen hit the southeastern United States, becoming the country’s second most destructive hurricane in the last 50 years.
