A new intercontinental missile has been tested in the United States.

The United States has completed a simulated electronic launch of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the press service of Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, where the test took place, reported on Friday, September 20.

The test itself took place on September 17. It is conducted twice a year to test the missile system’s operational readiness and response. The United States conducted its last training launch of a Minuteman III missile on June 6.

“SELM testing is vital to the performance of the ICBM fleet because it ensures the system will accomplish its mission if needed, while also providing readiness data to Air Force Global Strike Command and U.S. Strategic Command.” – the air base said in a statement.
