THE National Police and the Spanish Navy they intercepted a Panamanian fishing boat loaded with 4,500 kilos of cocaine in the Atlantic, 900 kilometers northwest of Canary Islands who, presumably, were going to land in Galicia.
In the intervention fifteen people were arrested which arrived this Friday, with the cache, at the naval base of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The investigation began in early November, when the North American Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) warned that a criminal organization could transfer a large quantity of cocaine between two ships on the high seas.
The suspect vessel, flying the Panamanian flag, had already been sanctioned by Panamanian authorities for committing serious offenses and had its fishing license revoked.
The fishing boat was also monitored by Spanish police officers in the Galician port of Vigo, as its activities were suspected of being linked to drug trafficking.
The operation to try to locate the fishing boat took place in the waters of the Atlantic, 926 kilometers west of the Canary Islands, police said.
With the help of a Spanish Navy ship, on November 12, agents of the Police Special Operations Group (GEO), accompanied by one of the investigators, boarded the suspect vessel, arrested the Fifteen crew members and around a hundred bales of cocaine weighing approximately 4,500 kilos were seized.
