On the third day of the COP29 conference, which is being held in Baku, a series of events continues within the framework of the Green Zone program. On November 13, the Azerbaijan COP29 Operating Company and “Rhenus”, the official logistics partner of COP29, organized a joint roundtable.
Oku.Az reports that this was reported by the COP29 Operating Company of Azerbaijan.
The session on “Climate Justice and Equality” reportedly included discussions on the important role of businesses in mitigating the effects of climate change and their efforts to achieve the global net-zero carbon goal. Participating in the event were Leyla Hasanova, COP29 Youth Climate Champion, Rueanna Haynes, Head of the Climate Diplomacy Team of the President of the Alliance of Small Island States, Aleksandra Ogneva, Head of Projects of the Board of Directors of the Rhenus Group, Vice President Attended by the II Working Group of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Adel Thomas, and the Director CGIAR Executive, Ismahane Elouafi. The panel discussed the disproportionate impact of climate change on vulnerable populations such as low-income communities, indigenous groups, women and youth, as well as the urgent need for fair and inclusive climate policy. The session also highlighted successful examples of gender-sensitive approaches, youth-led climate justice solutions and equitable policies.
Likewise, on November 13, in addition to the round table organized by the Azerbaijan COP29 Operating Company in the Green Zone, events and activities were held that covered different audiences and fields. Discussions and sessions were held on the critical power of the oceans to prevent climate change, developing community strategies to protect coastal regions disproportionately affected by sea level rise and climate change, and decarbonization strategies. At the same time, a yoga session, a film screening and a music session took place in the dynamic “Extreme Hangout” area of the Green Zone.
