A park will be built on the former El Pilar residential complex, demolished by the works of metro line 7B.

The instability of the terrain on the route of Metro Line 7B, in the San Fernando de Henares area, has been a problem for many families who live in the area, and they have seen their homes damaged and in some cases demolished. But not only the land; Some public centers have also been affected by the situation. One of them is the El Pilar residential complex, which had to be demolished for the works of Metro Line 7B. On its land, President Isabel Díaz Ayuso announced this Thursday that a 12,000 square meter park will be built.

This was one of Ayuso’s announcements during the first day of the debate on the state of the region, when he highlighted the investment of 5 million euros in this new green space, which will be ready from the second half of 2025.

The work will be carried out by the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure and has been planned in two phases. It will begin in January with the development of the surrounding streets, where pedestrians will have priority over vehicles. The design of the park, assures the regional government, was carried out taking into account the contributions of the local council to meet the needs of residents and those affected by Line 7B.

This park will allow residents of the area to carry out different outdoor activities, with projected areas with and without shadows, for different times of the year, and with sports, children’s and recreational areas, suitable for different ages.

The problems that have arisen almost since its inauguration around the metro line 7B have led, over the years, to a huge problem for the current regional administration. President Díaz Ayuso has prioritized its resolution and has ordered the different officials of the Ministry of Transportation to take charge of all the expenses incurred by the families as a result of the works and the demolition of their homes: from moving to temporary rent or storage of furniture.

The process of resolving and paying the compensation is now underway. The Executive has already paid them to 67 local families, for a value of almost 10 million euros, and will subsidize one hundred percent of the regional management taxes related to the purchase of housing by those affected.
