With a quick and efficient solution, managed to pump water from a spring near the Caparroso mill to a reservoir, which allowed Pamplona to resist until the final lifting of the blockade in 1875. It was on November 6, 1874 that water flowed again from the fountains of Pamplona after this engineering work. This achievement constituted an important milestone in the history of the city and the figure of Salvador Pinaquy was recognized 150 years ago with the presentation of a commemorative gold medal by the Town Hall.

Institutional declaration to pay tribute to the figure of Pinaquy

The Urban Planning Commission which met this Wednesday approved a institutional declaration to “pay tribute to Salvador Pinaquy Ducasse for his relevant contribution to the growth of the city”recognizing how his work and legacy are still appreciated in the elements of Pamplona’s street furniture. The Town Hall is also committed to “devoting a public space to Salvador Pinaquy Ducasse, symbolizing the city’s gratitude to his legacy”.

The declaration glosses the figure of Salvador Pinaquy Ducasseborn in Bayonne in 1817 and died in 1890 in his house on Calle Mayor 14 in Pamplona. At the age of 31, he arrived from his native country to Pamplona with José Sarvi, with whom he founded the company Salvador Pinaquy y Compañía in 1850, dedicated to foundry and blacksmithing, with a specialty in construction and assembly of agricultural machinery. The workshop was located in the Caparroso mill area.

He married Antonia Sancena Vergara and had a son, Salvador, who died shortly after him.

He the business then passed to his brother-in-lawwho founded the company Sucesores de Pinaquy y Cía in 1894. In the 40s of the 20th century, SL Casa Sancena was created, successor to Pinaquy, which maintained its activity devoting itself to the production of street furniture.
