A new ‘Platform d’Ensenyants pel Valencià’ saved the term “parental pin“, which caused so much controversy when Vox implemented it in Murcia referring to the veto of families on certain educational subjects for their children, now applied to those who choose the Castilian as language unique in classrooms.
Although the exemption of Valencian in predominantly Spanish-speaking areas is not new and has been in force for several mandates – also with the two autonomous governments of the socialist Ximo Puig in coalition with Compromís -, this new group of teachers demands that it be deleted. .
In fact, the Minister of Education, Universities and Employment, José Antonio Rovira, has expressly recommended on several occasions to parents not to request it and to opt for their children to study the Valencian subject. And not just with words, it has now widely promoted automatic official diplomas (up to C1 for students with the best grades) precisely to encourage and encourage the universalization of the teaching of this language.
However, on this platform, they do not seem to see things that way and in their founding manifesto they express themselves forcefully: “No to linguistic parental pin. We demand the end of the Valencian learning exemption for students from Spanish-speaking regions, because this boundaries their opportunities integration into Valencian society.
To begin with, on their website they claim to have 2,401 signatures of membership for this document which summarizes its fundamental demands.
Among other things, they point out that “in much of the country and especially in large urban areas, it is practically impossible to find daycares where the use of Valencian in the activities of the center, not even in those of public property. A lack that they consider “particularly scandalous”, since it concerns “the stage between 0 and 3 years, absolutely relevant in language learning”.
To do this, they demand not only that the regional administration provide resources, but also the municipalities, so that they assume “a legislative and economic effort”.
Regardless of these and other approaches and requests, the comparison with the parental pin in the educational field evokes the Vox initiative, although originally and outside of this context it also refers to controls of non-audiovisual content. suitable for children, for example on mobiles. . This would perhaps be more offensive, given that this mechanism is activated to prevent harmful information and messages.
Another similar analogy, also invented by another entity born from the Language Platform – the self-proclaimed Catalan NGO – likened Spanish to a “disease”, because it encourages parents not to vote for a language or another in the classrooms and to trust him. at the discretion of teachers, in the same way that they trust doctors with health matters.
