A prisoner convicted of murder was preventively expelled from the cafeteria of Mas d’Enric

A prisoner accused of murder who worked in the civil servants’ cafeteria Mas d’Enric penitentiary centerin El Catllar (Tarragona), was “preventively withdrawn” from this position “for security reasons,” as sources close to the prisons informed EFE.

The Independent Trade Union and Civil Service Center (CSIF) denounced in a press release on Tuesday that the prisoner had been assigned to “a particularly dangerous situation for the integrity of officials and prisoners”by having access to “dangerous utensils”. According to data provided by the CSIF, this prisoner in question is serving an 18-year prison sentence for the murder of a man he stabbed several times.

Sources close to the penitentiary centres explained to EFE that “for security reasons” this prisoner was removed preventively from the cafeteria of Mas d’Enric. The Ministry of Justice is finishing its review of the regulation of access

prisoners to the prison services for “strengthening security and coexistence.”

The CSIF assures in this sense that after the Murder of a cook in March at Mas d’Enric in the hands of a prisoner who committed suicide“The Ministry of Justice had given instructions to move the prisoners considered dangerous outside kitchens and workshops, in order to reduce access to knives and other dangerous tools.

At that time, Tarragona prison had taken fifteen prisoners convicted of violent crimes out of the kitchen.” However, last week the union denounced the fact that another assassin had been designated to a position in the kitchen of the Ponent prison (Lleida), “which led the Catalan prison services to remove him immediately after learning of the situation through the press.”

“It is well known that prisoners, due to the nature of their sentence and the supervisory function of officials, They do not feel any particular gratitude towards the prison staff.“These actions are an example of the total negligence of our prison managers and it is a clear lack of empathy towards the workers,” maintains the CSIF.
