A record amount of agricultural insurance was paid for damage to orchards

Within the framework of state-supported agricultural insurance in Azerbaijan, large payments were made for orchards and other crops.

Oku.Az informs that the Ministry of Agriculture has published information in this regard.

It was noted that, according to information from the Agrarian Insurance Fund, payments were made to farmers and farms located in the Agstafa and Samukh regions that were damaged as a result of several incidents.

Insurance payments were paid for damage caused by storms, hail, floods and other events.

Thus, 214,170 manats were paid to the LLC “Kur Fruit Company”, located in the Aghstafa district, for damage caused to cherry, apple, pear and peach orchards.

As a result of the storm, the cherry, apple, pear and peach orchards of the “Kur Fruit Company” company, located in the Poylu settlement of Aghstafa district, were severely damaged. After the Agrarian Insurance Fund was informed, experts sent to inspect the farm investigated the incident, assessed the damage, and as a result, a record amount of 215,170 manat was paid for damage to the orchards. This is the largest insurance payout for orchard damage in Azerbaijan so far.

Fields of watermelons, sunflowers and barley located in Garabagli village of Samukh region were damaged by subasma. After investigating the incident, the Agrarian Insurance Fund paid 94,500 manats to the farm for the watermelon field, 24,500 manats for the barley field and 39,600 manats for the sunflower field and paid the farmers. The premiums for watermelon and sunflower are so far the highest insurance amounts for these crops.

Cherry, peach and plum orchards in Garayeri village in Samukh district were severely damaged by a storm in May this year. As a result of this incident, agricultural insurance of AZN 25,049 was paid for damage to the orchard.

In this regard, on November 23, the Agrarian Insurance Fund held an insurance payment event for farmers affected by natural disasters in the Aghstafa and Samukh regions.

The events provided detailed information on land insurance to officials of the Land Insurance Fund, the Fund’s branches in Shamkir and Goranboy, executive branch executives of Samukh district and DAIM heads, and payments were made to farmers affected by natural disasters.

The event stated that as a result of unstable weather conditions and numerous natural phenomena observed in 2024, farms and agricultural fields were severely damaged in most regions of the country and crops were flooded. As a result of these events, one of the most damaged farms is in the Agstafa and Samukh districts.

Representatives of the executive branch of the Samukh district, recalling that the climatic conditions in the region are complex, stated that this situation often provokes the appearance of natural phenomena and causes damage to agricultural holdings. They urged farmers to take advantage of the agricultural insurance provided with the support of the State on favorable terms to protect themselves from such events.

Imran Jumshudov, advisor to the chairman of the board of directors of the Agrarian Insurance Fund, who spoke at the event, said that the number of farmers benefiting from agricultural insurance and insurance payments are increasing rapidly.

Thus, in the first nine months of this year, the Agrarian Insurance Fund paid 3.8 million manats to farmers and this amount is expected to exceed 6 million manats by the end of the year. In total, the Agricultural Insurance Fund has made more than 10 million insurance payments to farmers.

At the event it was stated that agricultural insurance is subsidized, that is, 50% of the insurance premium is paid by the State to support the farmer. Insurance payments to farmers affected by natural disasters were presented at the event. Farmers and agricultural managers who received the payment said that the insurance payment was a great support for them and they were very satisfied with the work of the agricultural insurance mechanism.

The questions raised by the farmers were answered and explained in detail.

It should be noted that currently the Agrarian Insurance Fund allows 48 crops to be insured, including cereals and technical crops, melons and orchards. The Agrarian Insurance Fund insures almost all of the country’s fruit crops.
