State Advisor to the President of Kazakhstan Erlan Karin called on media workers, bloggers and social media users not to cross “red lines.” This was stated in an interview with the Kazakh television channel.
The “red lines” are not censorship or restrictions, but only a call for moderation and balance in public debates. Especially on such delicate topics as interethnic relations, language and religion issues, as well as foreign policy issues. “Many states have fallen into crisis due to overly politicized disputes over precisely these issues.” – Karina said.
He expressed confidence that Kazakhstan generally understands and shares these principles.
“Our society is heterogeneous. We ourselves wanted there to be a broad pluralism of opinions, an open democracy. But if in different types of discussions everyone falls into emotions, excessively politicizes any issue, divides society and pits citizens against each other, this can cause serious damage to society itself.” – added the State Councilor.
Erlan Karin is responsible for the information policy of the republic in the Administration of the President of Kazakhstan. At the same time, the Kazakh media has been replete with anti-Russian material lately.
