Korean automotive giant Hyundai has received a patent for an innovative technology that could revolutionize the automotive industry. We are talking about tires that can change their shape during movement and at the same time solve two important problems: improving aerodynamics and cooling brakes.

It is reported that about 25% of air resistance comes from the car’s tires. To solve this problem, Hyundai engineers have developed a unique system that uses special aerodynamic flaps: when the brakes are hot, the flaps open and provide better cooling, and when they are cold, they close and improve the flow of the tire.
The main feature of the new technology is its simplicity and economy. The spring mechanism that moves the flaps is powered by heat from the brakes. This eliminates the need for multiple sensors and an additional electric motor and therefore does not increase the weight of the vehicle.
It is not yet known when Hyundai will implement its innovation into mass production, but the company has already confirmed that it is actively working on this issue.
