A group of scientists from the Kineret Limnology Laboratory and the Volcani Institute in Israel have proposed a scientific explanation for one of the miracles of Jesus Christ described in the Bible.
Oku.AzAccording to the information, the study was published in the scientific journal “Water Resources Research.”
According to the New Testament, Jesus Christ miraculously multiplied a few fish and fed a large community. This event is recorded in the gospels of Luke and John.
A team of scientists explored the depths of Lake Kinneret, also known as Lake Tiberias or the Sea of Galilee (as it is called in the Bible), where the incident occurred.
The researchers placed temperature sensors and devices that measure the level of oxygen in the deep water of the lake, and also checked the speed and direction of the wind. It turns out that periodically strong winds draw oxygen from the depths of the Kinneret, causing mass extinctions of fish and large amounts of water to the surface.
Lake Kineret has natural stratification: a cold lower layer with low oxygen content and a warmer upper layer where fish live because it is rich in oxygen. Thermal stratification occurs from time to time, when the waters of the two levels mix and there is not enough oxygen for fish to live in the lake.
“We found that during mass die-offs, the most common fish species in the lake tend to be along the shore and can be easily caught by hungry populations,” the scientists noted.
According to them, similar events could have occurred in the lake during the time of Jesus Christ, and this is reflected in the biblical texts.
